The Parts We Don't See
Sometimes I catch myself believing everyone else is living a different life than me.
A life filled with moments that look effortless.
Plans that worked out.
Careers that seem to fall into place.
Picture-perfect family photos.
Lives that seem untouched by hardship.
Because that's often what we're shown.
The polished version.
The parts that are easy to share.
Life isn't lived in the highlights.
It's lived in the ordinary moments in between.
Some of the best days of my life would probably look pretty ordinary to someone else.
A therapy appointment that went better than expected.
A quiet drive home.
A belly laugh from one of my boys.
Coffee before the house wakes up.
A peaceful evening after a hard day.
Those moments will never make headlines.
Most people would probably scroll right past them.
But somehow...
They've become the moments I treasure most.
There was a time when I thought I was waiting for life to begin.
Waiting for life to slow down.
Waiting for things to feel "normal" again.
Waiting for the next doctor's appointment to be behind us.
But life doesn't wait until everything feels okay.
It just keeps moving.
And somewhere along the way...
I realized I didn't want to miss it.
I've started noticing that joy rarely arrives in the way I expected.
It doesn't usually come with fireworks.
Or applause.
More often, it shows up quietly.
While I'm folding laundry.
On a walk.
During an ordinary Tuesday.
In a moment that almost slips by unnoticed.
If I'm paying attention...
It's already there.
The world celebrates the mountaintops.
But most of my life has been lived somewhere along the trail.
And honestly...
I think that's where I've found the parts I'll remember most.
Maybe that's why I don't want a perfect life anymore.
I just want to notice it while I'm living it.
The messy parts.
The beautiful parts.
The ordinary parts.
Because I have a feeling those are the pages I'll want to reread someday.
Before you go... What's one part of your story you've started seeing differently?
Keep Heading North.
