The Things We Carry Become Part of Us

The Things We Carry Become Part of Us

Journal Entry 002

There was a time when I thought strength meant carrying everything without letting anyone see how heavy it was.

I thought if I could just hold it together long enough, eventually life would feel normal again.

But life has a way of changing what "normal" looks like.

Over the last few years, I've carried things I never imagined I would.

Some of them have been incredibly beautiful.

Some of them have been incredibly hard.

Most days, they've been both at the same time.

I've learned that everyone is carrying something.

Some burdens are easy to see.

Most aren't.

The person standing in line at the grocery store.

The dad coaching his kid's baseball team.

The woman smiling in the coffee shop.

We never really know what someone else is walking through.

And maybe that's why kindness matters so much.

For a long time, I wished I could put some of my burdens down.

I wanted the life I thought I was supposed to have.

The one I had planned for.

The one that made sense.

But somewhere along the way, I stopped asking, "Why am I carrying this?"

And started asking, "What is this teaching me?"

It has taught me to slow down.

To celebrate small victories.

To notice people who are hurting.

To love deeper.

To hold hope with both hands, even on the days it feels fragile.

I don't think the things we carry make us less.

I think they make us more.

More compassionate.

More patient.

More grateful.

More aware that every single person we meet is fighting a battle we know nothing about.

Some things may never feel light.

But that doesn't mean they can't become part of something beautiful.

Maybe that's what healing really looks like.

Not forgetting what we've carried...

But learning to walk forward with it.

Before you go... What are you carrying today?

Keep Heading North.
